Step-by-Step Example of Spiritual Prayer
🙏 A Step-by-Step Example of Spiritual Prayer
(Using Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication, and Intercession)
Opening Posture:
Quiet your heart. Take a few deep breaths. Focus your thoughts on Jesus.
You may begin with this:
“Jesus, clear my mind of distractions. Help me to be fully present with You. I come as I am—ready to listen, to speak, and to grow in Your presence.”
🕊️ 1. Adoration – Worship God for Who He Is
“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.” – Psalm 145:3
Begin your prayer by honoring God—not for what He’s done, but simply for who He is.
Example:
“Lord, you are holy and good. You are Alpha and the Omega, my Creator and Sustainer. There is no one like You. Even when I don’t have the words, my heart worships You. Thank You for being faithful, merciful, and full of grace.”
📌 Tip: Speak God’s names back to Him: Father, Shepherd, Redeemer, Savior, Prince of Peace.
✝️ 2. Confession – Be Honest About Your Sin and Shortcomings
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” – 1 John 1:9
Lay down your burdens and brokenness. Prayer is a safe place to confess without fear.
Example:
“Lord, I confess that I’ve been impatient, distracted, and slow to trust You. I’ve held on to pride and bitterness. I ask for Your forgiveness. Cleanse me. Restore what’s been broken. I need Your mercy, and I receive it now.”
📌 Tip: Confession leads to freedom, not shame. Invite God into your struggles, not just your strengths.
🙌 3. Thanksgiving – Thank God for What He’s Done
“Give thanks in all circumstances…” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
A grateful heart changes everything. Look back and see God’s hand—even in the small things.
Example:
“Thank You for waking me up this morning. Thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life. I’m grateful for Your protection, Your Word, and the strength You’ve given me. Even in hard seasons, I see Your goodness all around me.”
📌 Tip: Make gratitude a habit. Thank God for both answered prayers and unanswered ones that protected you.
🙏 4. Supplication – Ask for What You Need
“Do not be anxious… but in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6
This is where you bring your personal needs, struggles, or desires to God—trusting His perfect will.
Example:
“Father, I need wisdom today—help me make the right decisions. I ask for strength to stay focused and peace to guard my heart. Provide what I need financially and emotionally. I trust you to take care of the details I can’t control.”
📌 Tip: Be specific in your requests, but open to how God answers.
🤲 5. Intercession – Pray for Others
“I urge… that petitions, prayers, intercession… be made for all people.” – 1 Timothy 2:1
Stand in the gap for friends, family, communities, and even nations.
Example:
“Lord, I lift my friend who’s grieving—bring her comfort. I pray for healing for my cousin’s illness. Strengthen the leaders in my church and community. Help those who feel forgotten. Bring peace to those in war-torn places. Use me, Lord, to be part of the answer.”
📌 Tip: Keep a prayer list to help you pray intentionally for people and situations over time.
🙌 Closing the Prayer
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” – Ephesians 3:20
Wrap your prayer with praise and trust in God’s power to answer.
Example Closing:
“Lord, I leave all these things in Your hands. I believe you are working even when I can’t see it. Strengthening my faith. Teach me to walk with You daily. I love You, and I give You all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

A Spiritual Prayer Using the ACTS Framework
Opening Prayer to Begin:
“Jesus, clear my mind of distractions. Help me to be fully present with You right now. I lay down the noise, the worry, the rushing, and I come before You honestly. Teach me how to pray with my whole heart. Fill this space with Your peace.”
Adoration – Worship God for Who He Is
Heavenly Father,
You are holy, eternal, and full of glory. There is no one like You—faithful in every season, patient in all Your ways. You are my Refuge, my Provider, my Redeemer, my Friend. Even when my heart is heavy, you remain good. I worship You not just for what You’ve done, but because of who You are. You are love. You are peaceful. You are the light that drives out darkness. I honor You with my words and with my spirit.
Confession – Be Honest and Repent
Lord, I confess that I’ve fallen short. I’ve allowed worry to rule my thoughts and fear to guide my choices. I’ve spoken words I shouldn’t have, and I’ve withheld kindness when I could’ve shown love. I ask for Your forgiveness—not just to remove my guilt, but to make my heart right again. Search me, God, and know my heart. Cleanse me from anything that pulls me away from You. Restore in me the joy of walking closely with You.
Thanksgiving – Give Thanks to God
Thank You, Lord, for Your endless grace. Thank You for waking me up today with breath in my lungs and purpose in my heart. Thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life—family, friends, mentors, even strangers who reflect Your kindness. I’m grateful for Your Word that guides me, for Your Spirit that comforts me, and for every answered prayer—even the ones I didn’t recognize at the time. Thank You for being near, always.
Supplication – Ask God for Your Needs
Father, today I ask for wisdom to make the right decisions, for patience when I feel overwhelmed, and for clarity when my path feels uncertain. I need Your strength to get through what I cannot handle alone. Provide what I need physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Surround me with Your peace when life feels chaotic. Help me to trust You deeply, even when I don’t have all the answers. Lord, be my strength, my provider, my counselor, and my protector.
Intercession – Pray for Others
I lift those around me who need You right now. I pray for my friend who is grieving—wrap her in Your comfort. For my family members who are struggling—bring healing, provision, and renewed hope. I intercede for my church leaders—grant them strength and vision. I pray for the people in my city, my country, and across the world who are facing war, hunger, or hopelessness. Lord, use me to be part of the answer to someone else’s prayer. Let my life reflect Your love.
Closing – End with Faith and Trust
I leave all these prayers in Your hands, God, trusting that You are already at work. You can do far more than I could ask or imagine. Thank You for hearing me. Thank You for moving even when I can’t see it yet. Help me to walk through today in peace and in purpose. I give You all the glory, and I trust you fully. In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen.
